Location: Manche, Normandy, Northern France

The village of Fresville rises above the local Nature Reserve of the 'Marais' and is surrounded by farmland and orchards, criss-crossed by quiet lanes. Central on the Peninsula, you are never far from a coast. Choose from rugged cliffs, sandy stretches or the famous
D-Day Beaches or visit charming little ports such as Portbail, Carteret, Barfleur, St. Vaast la Hougue and Carentan. Visit colourful markets or ancient abbeys and cathedrals such as Mont St Michel, or see the fascinating tapestry in Bayeux.

Of enduring interest is Normandy's more recent history, such as the many moving WW2 museums and memorials. Les Cavées itself was occupied by German soldiers for some time. The rich pastoral traditions of the area are represented in a number of agricultural museums, some with cheese or cider tasting. There are endless opportunities for all kinds of rural and coastal activities such as walking, cycling, horse riding, sailing, canoeing, golf, beach-combing and bird-watching. Or just relax!
